Amazing Ratings By Super Bowl LI

The Patriots epic come back did not make for the most-watched Super Bowl ever.

Super Bowl LI drew an average audience of 111.3 million viewers for Fox, which is slightly down from last year’s 111.9 million according to CNN. The previous time the Patriots were in the Super Bowl in 2015, it was the largest audience in history with an average of 114.4 million viewers.

The 111.3 million this years makes Super Bowl LI the fourth-most-watched broadcast in history.

The lower numbers could be a result of the game play and a lopsided first half.

Pats’ improbable Super comeback part of the greatest sports era
This year’s Super Bowl seemed like it was trending towards a blowout for most of the game. The Falcons led by 28-3 at one point in the third quarter, but New England would score 31 straight points to win their fifth Super Bowl in overtime, 34-28.

While the viewers might be down from last year, Fox is also reporting it had an additional 1.72 million viewers who used online streaming to watch the telecast and an average of 650,000 on its Fox Deportes channel, the Los Angeles Times reports.

When you take these into account, it bumps up the audience number to an average of 113.7 million.

However, it’s difficult to get an exact number of people who watched the game when you take into account people watching at parties or bars.
